چکیده

Researchers have developed multiple methods to characterize clinical and environmental strains of Vibrio vulnificus. The aim our study was use four assays detect virulence factors in from infected patients those surface waters/sediments/oysters South Carolina the Gulf Mexico. vulnificus (n = 81) 171) sources were tested using three real-time PCR designed polymorphisms 16S rRNA, vcg pilF genes a phenotypic method, ability ferment D-mannitol. Although none tests correctly categorized all isolates, differentiation between isolates similar for pilF, vcgC/E rRNA assays, with sensitivities 74.1–79.2% specificities 77.4–82.7%. are comparable efficacy widely used while D-mannitol fermentation test is less discriminatory (sensitivity 77.8%, specificity 61.4%). Overall percent agreement method also lower (66.7%) than overall 3 molecular (78.0%–80.2%). This demonstrated, large, diverse group that could be distinguish most vs isolates; however, additional needed increase accuracy.

Vibrio vulnificus: An Environmental and Clinical Burden

Vibrio vulnificus is a Gram negative, rod shaped bacterium that belongs to the family Vibrionaceae. It is a deadly, opportunistic human pathogen which is responsible for the majority of seafood-associated deaths worldwide. V. vulnificus infection can be fatal as it may cause severe wound infections potentially requiring amputation or lead to sepsis in susceptible individuals. Treatment is incre...

Assorted ribotypes of Vibrio vulnificus human and environmental isolates.

We subtyped 117 Vibrio vulnificus isolates from 85 V. vulnificus sepsis patients and 32 environmental samples by performing automated ribotyping for the purpose of molecular epidemiological study. Although there was one indistinguishable ribotype among the four human isolates and one environmental isolate, taken as a whole, the ribotypes were highly diverse regardless of sample sources. We repo...

Pyrosequencing-Based Comparative Genome Analysis of Vibrio vulnificus Environmental Isolates

Between 1996 and 2006, the US Centers for Disease Control reported that the only category of food-borne infections increasing in frequency were those caused by members of the genus Vibrio. The gram-negative bacterium Vibrio vulnificus is a ubiquitous inhabitant of estuarine waters, and is the number one cause of seafood-related deaths in the US. Many V. vulnificus isolates have been studied, an...

Distribution of Virulence Markers among Vibrio vulnificus Isolates of Clinical and Environmental Origin and Regional Characteristics in Japan

BACKGROUND Vibrio vulnificus is an opportunistic human pathogen that is widely distributed in estuarine environments and is capable of causing necrotizing fasciitis and sepsis. In Japan, based on epidemiological research, the incidences of V. vulnificus were concentrated in Kyusyu, mainly in coastal areas of the Ariake Sea. To examine the virulence potential, various genotyping methods have rec...

Comparative genomic analysis of clinical and environmental Vibrio vulnificus isolates revealed biotype 3 evolutionary relationships

In 1996 a common-source outbreak of severe soft tissue and bloodstream infections erupted among Israeli fish farmers and fish consumers due to changes in fish marketing policies. The causative pathogen was a new strain of Vibrio vulnificus, named biotype 3, which displayed a unique biochemical and genotypic profile. Initial observations suggested that the pathogen erupted as a result of genetic...
